Corrupt Files/Torrenting

Greetings, i'm a newbie to FL but i can navigate through the .DAW itself. My issue is the file and a past version of FL i had. I never purchased FL until late 2018 but my friend gave me a download file for FL 12.5. Now that I have FL 20: Academic version, i want to only use FL 20, not FL 12.5. The files intertwine so when i launch the app, FL 12.5 opens. I want to use and register my product (FL 20). How can I rid myself of the "torrent" 12.5 and only use FL 20, the right way?
