Ctrl-G giving unpredictable results that are not correct

Just got a new computer and installed the latest FL 20 and the Ctrl-G thing has stopped working! it was working great to make multiple selected patterns in the playlist tracks into one longer pattern. You just highlight a few patterns and Ctrl-G instantly turns them into one long one. On this new system it shortens the length by giving you just one of the patterns and not the newly generated one. A newly generated one gets created in the list but dragging it in, (which sucks) it's still only one measure long when it's supposed to be 4 for instance and doesn't contain the right material even when you pull out the edge? Anyone know whats going on here?

edit: wait a second it's working perfectly in another project. What could be wrong with this one? I'm trying to compare the differences but other than the step length of the patterns I dont see any.

edit again: its not in the other project if you try it with 32 step patterns. What's happening it seems is the newly merged pattern is not automatically upping it's number of steps. When you go from 16 to 32 steps in that pattern it works. Still pretty annoying. why would the merged pattern not be the right amount of steps and you have to manually do it? This makes no sense and I never had to in my other system.
