Recording audio creates multiple channels

Hi all

Does anyone know why when I record an audio file into FL it creates multiple tracks in the Channel Rack? I start by creating a new channel and selecting Audio in the dropdown menu, but once I record it in, there are usually 6-10 separate channels containing small segments of the recorded content.
