A feature that I would REALLY like to see added to FL is Tempo Mapping. Many other DAW's now support this feature and with Melodyne 4
variable tempo detection works wonderfully... at least in other Daw's. When Im working with different people the workflow changes depending on the music style they have. A lot of folk and acoustic groups don't like recording to a click or cant because of gradual tempo shifts in there songs. Recording these people is a nightmare without tempo mapping for adding anything post or drum matching even for tempo dependent effects like delays. Studio one 3.1 Handles this well to the point where you can drag and drop a melodyne 4 tempo map and in seconds keep working in piano roll as though everything is fine.
Problem is I like FL much much more. I have been using it since version 2 or 3. The need for these features has grown over time and I find myself having to use other DAW's to work with people that I am less comfortable using. The other issue is when I have looked through the forums and seen other people post looking for this as a feature it seems largely ignored.
Not only do I think that having this would get me back into using FL for 99% of what I do... I think it would open the door for others to use FL that have not in the past due to these sorts of limitations. Im still happy with the new additions of the last version and some of the live features are fun but for FL to keep up and still be a production tool that can work with all genres this is something that needs to be fixed.
There is even room for improvement on tempo mapping in other software. One thing I have not seen implemented well is a tempo tap that tracks the changes and interpolates based on the down beats. If FL could resize the tempo length of individual bars there would be potential to do this.
As an example take your live recorded track... say a guitar and vocals. Tap through the song one the down beats. (Tap 2, 3, 4, Tap 2, 3, 4)
Have a strip along the top of the playlist that adds some orange dots for each tap and some grey for automatic even spread notes between them. Trigger by midi, keyboard or mouse. Right click the dot to change time sig to say 3/4 if need for a bar or two. Then if fine tuning is needed you can just drag the dots in problem areas to match the recording or select more then one set of dots to drag. This could be checked by the metronome as well to make sure all is well. Anything in the Piano Roll now snaps or stretches to fit these sections.
If something like that could be pulled off also the option to import tempo maps form Melodyne 4 this would be great. It gives artists the freedom to be expressive with tempo and people working with there tracks the ability to match performance instead of restrict it. Hopfully this is being worked on or considered.
