- Auto-arm the corresponding mixer track, and begin the rendering process for the given instrument for all the patterns in the instrument track's lane (as if the playlist instrument track was soloed
- Place this new audio file in a new track underneath the existing instrument track (or perhaps on the same instrument track), with the audio routed to the instrument track's mixer channel (so it passes through the same effects). Placement is similar to how the Automation Tracks for instrument tracks are placed
- Unarm the corresponding mixer track when this is complete
- (The key step) Disabling (or "turning off") the original instrument track so it does not consume CPU. Alternatively, the patterns in the playlist for the instrument track could be muted.

I think adding instrument tracks was one of the coolest features FL has seen in a long time. However, with the addition of instrument tracks, it seems like it should be even easier to freeze these tracks. For instance, from the mixer, playlist or channel rack, right clicking a mixer track could give an option to "Freeze Instrument Track." What this would do would be as follows:
