A lot of modern DAWs / mixing hardware have a feature called solo dim, which allows you to solo a track (or multiple tracks) without completely cutting out the volume of the other tracks.
For example instead of -∞dB, you can set it to -20dB, or -10dB. This allows you to focus on an element, while still having context when taking decisions.
