Lock channel rack to mixer without instrument track

I like to use the step sequencer to program percussion but this usually results in patterns with activity on many different instruments, so creating instrument tracks for them creates a lot of unused playlist tracks. On the other hand, each percussion instrument often has its own mixer track and I'd like those to share labels like instrument tracks do.

Probably the simplest way to do this is to just add a check mark to the channel rack menu, "Lock to mixer track" that enables the channel rack <-> mixer linking without adding a playlist track, similar to how an audio track does while bypassing the channel rack.
