The main Gain knob

Some time ago you removed the possibility for the main gain knob to be automated. I can agree that it was a good move on your part... but... can we perhaps take it a step further and unlink it from projects completely so that it stops changing itself?

It would be nice to have a volume control that works just like in any other media player. I would also see it as a precaution so you don't accidentally damage your hearing.
