Question for DJs/Turntablists

Im looking to start DJing. I have no experience. Maybe some of you can clear up a few basic questions for me...

From what I understand, a program exists that allows you to play music from your computer, which is sent to the turntable, and then you can scratch with it using a blank vinyl? Can somone tell me about this?

If thats what I plan to do, do I need to buy a special turntable and/or mixer? Any suggestions on decent beginners equipment? Thanks...
