Midi suddenly won't record in song mode.

In the middle of working on a track my midi keyboard quit recording in song mode. I can still record fine in pattern mode, but trying to record in song/playlist mode generates nothing. I can hear everything fine, and I can take something recorded in pattern mode and put it in the playlist. I've selected everything correctly on the record button, and google searched has generated nothing similar. What happened? I use a novation launchkey plugged directly into my computer.
