Updated So I did a direct test with the audio technica 4055 vs my Akg C900 microphone. The results are pretty much the same. I only hear a small difference. I thought I would post.
This section is about the $15 mic vs $500 mic
Ok first thing, I made a mistake because i said $30 mic in the audio example. I paid 30 bucks for 2 of them. My friend let me burrow his Audio Technica AT-4055 which back then sold for $500. He picked it up for $150 at a local music store that decided to go out of business about 10 years ago.
Well that being said, I am super shocked at the audio example of the $15 microphone. Kinda depressed that the at-4055 did not sound better. At least the at-4055 is heavy duty and it is a stage or studio mic. So I know it will never break down. But still. Unless I need a better pre amp to give it better sound, I don't know. I recorded at the same spot at the same time so there is no bias to them. Both files are raw. I just normalized the signal so both mics would be at the same level.
Can you guess which mic is which. Mic 1 is... Mic 2 is. I will tell the results after a few comments back.
Btw I got a sweet little vocal booth that traps all the reveb. Made with 2 inch foam and a few blankets. It works very nice.
