Sending CC messages to my Roland JP-8080

Hello, I have been using the JP-8080 off and on for a few years. In the past, I've always automated it by hand. Now, I'd like to try to program automates via FL Studio's automation controls. However, CC messages do not seem to respond.

My procedure:
1. I use MIDI-Out.
2. I select the MIDI-Out port number that corresponds to my USB out.
3. I select the first unassigned knob in the MIDI-Out page and set it to the CC parameter I want to automate.

The JP-8080 pdf manual clearly states that filter cutoff is CC-74 (1 - 127 value). However, NO CC messages make it to the synth, and I've also tried numerous random numbers. Notes and velocity are no problem. CC-1 seems to also function for pitch LFO, but that's all.

I have heard of commercial dashboard programs that make automating your synth easier... but something as simple as filter settings shouldn't be a problem with MIDI-Out, no?
