How to change monitoring volume without changing recording volume

Hi I’m trying to listen to my guitar while recording it. I need the mic volume to be high enough for me to get a quality recording but turning it up makes my guitar way too loud in my headphones as well. I have tried lowering the volume on the panel I’m recording it on in the mixer but that also makes the resulting recording quiet even once the volume is raised again. How do I monitor at a lower volume but still make the same recording?
