New PC isn't as fast as it seems like it should be

Hello.

I built my first PC, which is going fine except it seems to be underperforming. Running the same FL project in both new and old PCs, the new one on performs twice as fast and the old PC.

The ~4-year-old one had a modest little i3 with 2 cores. The new one is a 6 core i7-8700 (and more ram, ssds, etc). The old one shows about 40% (FL's cpu meter) on old PC, and ~20 on the new PC. Multi-thread is enabled in FL. The new one even idles at a higher CPU level than the old PC.

Seeing as this is a build, and not a purchased PC with bloatware, it seems like it should be doing much better than it is. I'm looking into tweaks to make it faster, but it feels too slow, right out of the box.

Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks!
