As I said, the whole convenience of a well-designed track-based workflow. Things like automation lanes being children of their parent tracks, point-based automation for easy rearranging and copypasting, MIDI clips that are unique by default, and so on. I'm familiar with every incarnation of playlist in FL Studio. Nowadays I'm too old to compromise or bother with workarounds if more convenient alternatives are available, so when I need "collage sequencing" I use FL Studio, and when I need track-based workflow I use another DAW.
But in past years I've started a lot of projects in FL Studio which were, at their core, more track-based than collages. Finishing them usually involves transferring them to a track-based DAW, which can be rather inconvenient.
What inspired my first post in this thread was remembering how audio clips were once a highly requested feature and originally implemented in a hybrid playlist (patterns above, clips below). From that, I thought about how adding track-based sequencer to FL Studio would make most sense as an entirely new feature, instead of reworking the current playlist and possibly compromising its existing strengths.
Again, not that I'd ever expect that to happen. But when Shinyless hinted at some old feature request being worked on, I had to chime in just for personal fun
