How to account for offset mod wheel in pitch mapping formula

A midi controller I have has a spring-loaded pitch wheel that rests at 54% instead of 50%. I've come up with some simple linear equations to fix this for most parameters, so that 54% maps to 50%. But I can't seem to figure out how the pitch mapping works. If I set the mapping formula to Input + 0.01, the channel pitch bend wheel is offset by a good 40% or so, not 1%. Also, if I turn my (physical) wheel to 100% it offsets the pitch by 2 semitones, putting the (digital) wheel at max. But if I set the pitch mapping formula to just be always 1, it turns the (digital) wheel way past 100% and the pitch is shifted by several octaves.

How big is the range for the pitch wheel? And is there some kind of scaling of the input going on beforehand?
