have been reading into this subject a lot but still not fully understanding

wave files. mixers. audio data and how it can be stored using Pulse Code Modulation.

Honestly, I think I will need someone to explain this stuff in a way my "artist" ears can understand the concept.

basically, I know that pcm is the technology being used/utilized by microsoft when they invented the wave file format. but I really don't understand (honestly I'm shocked) that a file format (which I also don't fully comprehend) can exist on a computer system and contain all data in a given audio file, with the capability of displaying all of the frequencies that can possibly exist between 20 and 20,000 Hz.

also, what the heck are Hertz anyway (just joking, I know this but let's avoid making my question too complicated)

In essence my question is more disbelief at how complicated the existing "framework" for a pcm based file extension to exist. it would seem that I am in disbelief that something so complicated can exist inside something so compact.
