Gain staging
So I’m completely new to mixing and I was reading about gain staging and leveling. From what I understood, I want to get all of my drum samples and instruments as close to 0db with the channel rack volume but not go over, before applying effects and adjusting the mixer faders to balance everything... is this right or did I read something wrong? It kind of makes sense because I read that the lower you pull the mixer fader down you lose resolution so it seems like it is best to get as loud of a signal into the mixer as you can without clipping so that you don’t have to pull down the mixer faders too much... any input on this would be helpful thanks guys
