Lauchpad Mini Mkii Chromatic Midi Mapping

Is there a way to use a launchpad as just a chromatic midi pad that can bank thru octaves? I just got one today thinking that would be the function, similar to maschine.. I tried using the generic controller mapping but the pads are assigned to keys all over the place. Please help! I don't wanna use it in performance mode, just wanna be able to cycle up and down thru octaves to trigger midi notes!
