Link different MIDI velocities to different channels

A few months ago I linked my e-drum kit to FL studio using USB. I mapped the MIDI to a drum VST and it works great, but there is one issue. My e-drum kit does not have a MIDI signal for when I choke the cymbals. I think I've figured out a way to work around this, but I don't know how to set it up. When choking a cymbal, the kit sends out a midi signal as if I hit the cymbal extremely lightly. I never hit it that lightly, so my idea is to treat that low-velocity note as a trigger for the cymbal choke function in my drum kit vst. However, that means I somehow have to split the high-velocity notes and the low-velocity notes into different MIDI channels, and I don't know how to do that. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this? Thanks in advance
