Control external digital mixer with midi CC from Fl Studio mixer?

I have just purchased a Behringer XR18 digital mixer.
A lot of the XR18s mixer functions (volume/pan/effect sends etc.) can be controlled via midi.
So here I was under the impression that I would be able to map FL Studios mixer to the XR18, and control the XR18 with CC messages from FL Studios mixer.
But now it seems like this is not as easy as I would have thought.
The question is. Is it even possible?
If no: is there any workaround to achieve this?
