fl no longer reading vst synths as generators

in fl when i go to my generators it is empty in the vst category not the vst3's though. they are all showing up under effects generators and all.. also for some time now when scanning for plugins it no longer recognizes whether or not they are effects or synths but now this. i had the plugin manager rescan and verify all plugins because in the past i did not have that checked (though it still had no problems determining whether they were synths or effects) and it gets stuck and i end up having to cancel the scan. whats wrong?
