so I had a conversation with an old friend and it turned into a disagreement over the definition of "producer." kinda wondering, what the ACTUAL definition of producer is and if it has more to do with networking with people and organizing an event/show etc doing paperwork... or if it's more about the technical aspect of things like setting up equipment on a live set/doing hardware configuration.... or if production itself is more having to do with all of these things including knowing how to use a sequencer/daw and create a product.
If it's something that has to do with all of these things, and you get paid to do it as a JOB then neither me or my friend can call ourselves a producer since we are both unemployed but skilled. (he's more of a hardware guy and does lots of technical stuff so I told him that's more like an engineer except that to be a proper engineer OR producer you need to do more than own gear and know how to set it up. you need to CREATE something, and market it as a product.)
it was an interesting discussion that led to my friend hanging up on me. lol.
curious what anyone else thought.
