There have been requests over the years to have a "notes" layer on the playlist (basically an overlay that lets you place text and simple graphics to make production notes overtop of the playlist, e.g., designate what automation modifies a different audio or pattern clip with a line and text to describe the relationship). This request is similar but more about a layer that allows you to create connections like patcher but between clips. When in node mode you create a new node group by making a connection between clips. It would autoname but prompt you to set name, color. The pattern picker would populate with these node groups which you can pull into the playsit as a set of connected clips spaced as they are defined vertically and horizontally in the playlist. It would have the option to turn on toggle to create unique node group instance when pasting or pulling into playlist.
You could also set a multi-level parenting relationship between the connected clips or just have it consider all connects equal. Parenting would allow you to move children clips without moving parents but parents could be used to move all children.
The node mode would be a functionally and visually superior option to grouping and could really speed up tedious tasks involved in duplicating certain sounds and sequences. This would be great for chopped audio as well.
