Would be interesting to have a way of selecting 128 MIDI notes at the turn of a knob. [...]
In this version, samples are still triggered by a MIDI note (keyboard or Piano Roll), but any note can be used. The "Sample #" knob determines which sample is being played. Turn the knob to choose a sample. Use radio buttons to select bank and sampler. Load samples into DirectWave and 'Remap zone(s) as drumkit'.
Velocity of the incoming MIDI note is preserved.
All else remains the same as in Omnifold's original patch.
If a sample (Zone) spans multiple notes in DW (e.g. one sample across the entire keyboard), the knob qualifies the pitch the sample is played at. Hence, e.g. automating the "Sample #" knob yields quick timbre variations then.
The sample on C0 (MIDI value = 0) will not be played, as it constitutes "Note off"
