I've had this idea for a while now and I think it's time I actually make the post. This idea comes from a personal annoyance and that is that I often need risers or sweeps (or up- and downlifters, whatever you call them) and to be honest, there aren't a lot out there that are to my liking. So, I have to resort to making them myself - which is fun! But! It can be quite tedious at times too, especially when you're "in the zone" and you're just looking for a quick riser to grab. Now I know FL Cloud is one solution, but also there I find that I tend to spend more time looking for a good sample than actually making music.
Therefore I propose the community sample pack! Over time we'll create a sample pack filled with custom made risers and sweeps which will then be free to use for everyone. The goal is to create a diverse as possible pack, so we can satisfy as many needs as we can. I was thinking about the following structure for the pack.
- SHORT (0-2 bars long, excluding tail¹)
- Uplifters (go up in pitch/cutoff/lfo speed etc)
- Downlifters (go down in pitch/cutoff/lfo speed etc)
- MEDIUM (3-4 bars long, excluding tail)
- Uplifters
- Downlifters
- LONG (5-8+ bars long, excluding tail)
- Uplifters
- Downlifters
What I'm asking you guys is to contribute to this sample pack by making stuff and uploading it here. There are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow:
- Make the sample compatible with a 4/4 time signature. If not, please specify in the file name. (more on that later)
- Obviously make the sample yourself. No usage of any existing sample is allowed and just simply submitting an existing sample is prohibited. I'm counting on your good faith here. Have fun with the creation process!
- Deliver the sample in 24 bit wav. No other format is allowed.
- Make sure the sample has been normalized, or at least close to unity (0dB) at its loudest point.
- Specify in the file name the following:
- Length (short, medium or long)
- Type (uplifter, downlifter or percussive)
- Tempo in the BPM it fits best or has been made at.
- Key/scale if applicable.
- Your (user)name.
- Use a hyphen (minus sign) between specifications. Don't forget to use spaces.
- LONG - Uplifter - 100BPM - C - MvR
- SHORT - Downlifter - 172BPM - 6/8 - Am - MvR
- MEDIUM - Uplifter - 128BPM - MvR - Dry
[LENGTH] - [Type] - [Tempo in BPM] - [TIME SIGNATURE] - [Key] - [Username]
Where BOLD words are mandatory and ITALIC words are only used when it's applicable. So if your sample is in 4/4 you don't need to specify that. If it doesn't have a strong note or key, also don't specify that. Don't forget to put spaces in between the hyphens and capitalize your words. Thank you! Saves me a lot of editing.
Now, when we'll eventually have enough samples I'll organize everything neatly into a folder and provide a download link which then can be shared.
Anything you guys want to talk about? Ideas? Feedback? I'll start working on my own contributions and will upload any I make here as soon as one is done!
Good luck everybody and I hope you'll contribute!
