multiple take recording midi patterns

Hi

I understand that I can do multiple takes of audio. Is there a way to run a loop of a song and record multiple takes of midi data each in its own pattern. For example. I am using Dune 2 vst and I want the beat cycle through while recording various basslines each in its own pattern so I can use the ones I want when I want (I want to keep the midi data so I can copy and paste the parts I want later). Loop record method overrides the previous pattern so that wont work.

I currently am able to manually stop playback then change the pattern to the next # in sequence and turn off previous recorded pattern in the play list and keep doing this. I am wondering if there is a more automatic way of just letting it keep playing while recording midi. Thanks
