Share Akai Midimix between Host and VST

Is it possible to share my Akai Midimix controller between FL studio host and FL Studio winning in a VST.. I cannot get it working. It get a message saying:

The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again.

I want to be able to use one of the midi knobs in a VST instrument that is running inside FL Studio in VST mode..

I've worked out how to use the volume channels but I need to share the midi device between Host and VST..
