I'll hold off an typing a huge essay on how much I love and will continue to shill for FL studio, but I like it so much I only really have 2 complaints that, if fixed, would probably make it close to perfect.
1. A better collection of stock, sample-based, instruments.
The stock instruments in FL are mostly synthesizers, and while FLEX does have some good libraries, there aren't really any good sampled instrument collections akin to a basic Rompler. This could be fixed by remaking FLEX's General MIDI library, which admittedly fits the criteria, it just sounds pretty bad. General MIDI libraries have enough variety that it would work great for people just starting out to make songs with (if the samples sound good.) To avoid confusion, maybe this could be made into it's own plugin as a more compact version of FLEX (like how soundgoodizer is maximus presets) purely for the GM library so beginners know where to start when looking for sounds (and having a new plugin could build enough hype to get word out that this would be where beginners should look for basic instruments.) Another thing to mention is the stock drum samples are in need of some new additions to appeal to a broader genre range, and maybe add more loops too, but I think that's slightly less valuable than giving beginners a good starting point for instruments.
2. New ways to create patterns.
FL studio already lets you link instruments to playlist tracks. All it really needs is a way to draw in new patterns directly in the playlist without having to use the channel rack. Obviously the channel rack is part of FL Studio's identity, but in my opinion FL's biggest strength is how many different approaches you can take to one task, and all of them can work. It's extremely flexible and allows a lot of personalization in your workflow. If you were able to draw in MIDI patterns directly in the playlist and have them open the piano roll for the instrument linked to that track (or whatever instrument is selected in the channel rack if there is no instrument linked) then this would open the doors to allowing people to overhaul how they make music in FL studio. I understand this change could be difficult to get right and does step on the very idea of the channel rack a bit, but FL Studio has always been the DAW of personalized workflow and this would allow even more freedom to make songs the way you want to.
I don't mean to make these changes sound simpler than they are, obviously I've never made a DAW, but these are the two things that always makes me hesitate when I tell people to check out FL Studio.
The 2 changes that would make FL the perfect DAW
