You're welcome.AtomicOverdrive wrote: ↑Sat Nov 08, 2025 7:47 pmThis makes my head hurt thinking about what's going on. LOLThis is something I have never worked with, so is this done running the vocals into the buss Maximus is on? I do not understand how it would differentiate between say the rhythm guitars and the vocals since they both would be in that same mid freq area..

TY though![]()
In principle, Maximus' 'Master mid mode' equates to what's going on in the pic below, where the compressor's key (sidechain input) is just a bandpassed version of an audio stream : Your pointing to TDR Nova, and 4mB's equivalent scheme, does allow more selective sidechain dynamics processing. In 4mB's scheme, there's the bonus of having a spectral region respond to another.
To go to maximal potential, MSpectralDynamics offers thousands of dynamics processors, each on their own bandsplit. Extremely surgical.
Incidentally, you can fake an MSpectralDynamics with Vocodex. The trick is to impose Saturation Curve to force inverse modulation.
Here's an example of Maximus in 'Master mid mode'. Toggle the "BYPASS" button on Control Surface to A|B its effect.
i could only get about 3dB ducking, with the compression ratio i chose, given how close in level and spectral-occupancy of the synth and vocals. It's enough to show some carving-out room for the vocals though :
