One of my most stressful areas is getting MIDI notes into notation software so that it looks human readable and normal. My method here will let you export MIDI so that Dorico (or other) presents human readable music you can edit without being overwhelmed. In my case I am exporting and cleaning piano music. I usually write music in a DAW and then notate it after.
I have also had luck exporting MIDI into Cubase (with orchestral type music) and it generates pretty good staves I can export as a Dorico project. Cubase is a "middle man" for me when I do orchestral pieces:

Hope someone finds this helpful down the road. Notation software and its lack of integration with DAWs is a big disappointment at this stage of... technology but I can get a bearable result with these instructions:
To get better transfer, you should:
-save a separate copy of your project.
-go to piano roll, select all Ctrl-A
-Sel-D to "Discard Lengths" to the Magnet setting
-Quantize at a reasonable granularity with Ctrl-Q
-Export MIDI to notation software
-Edit the notes there
