Thank you for your insight, definitely some parallels.deepfall wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 1:52 amThe main thing I miss from using FL Studio on Windows is all of the cool, free, quirky VSTs that are available that just don't exist as Mac versions (I was a heavy user of LazySnake, Silkworm, SQ8-L), and I miss having access to that rich palette of sounds.
As far as everything else (like gaming and general productivity/goofing off), I've found the Mac to be perfectly capable. I'm not sure how "casual" your casual gaming is, but my fanless M3 can run No Man's Sky, BG3, Civ VI, and hell even Control without breaking much of a sweat (at *appropriate graphics settings*), and if your gaming is even more casual than that, you should be fine.
However I'm not sure if this year (or the next two or three) is a particularly good year for indulging in any kind of new tech. Parts are super scarce and prices have skyrocketed. I would suggest waiting if you can wait, but if you can't then go for the Mac. You can still keep your PC around if you want to.
The only thing I can say I'd miss on Windows is SolidWorks as that's as far as I know Windows only. I suppose I could learn Fusion, but I'm already accustomed to SW as it's used at work. I use it at home for 3D printing projects/prototyping.
I believe the entirety of my VST library is cross platform, NI stuff, Neural DSP, FabFilter stuff.
Gaming wise, I don't game as often as used to. But when I do, it's mainly story games or something to relax/distract myself. Think games like Resident Evil, The Last of Us, Fortnite, Battlefield, COD, etc.
