Now imagine trying to mix for other folks hearing curves. A lot of upper frequency hearing loss is just an aging effect. Males lose their upper frequencies sooner then females, so there is biology involved in addition to the variety of an audience. Not to mention, the audio equipment at the other end. That's what drives some the high volumes at live venues and compression to mobile ears.
