True Free Windows and Saved Multi-Monitor Workspaces

Hello Image-Line Development Team,

I would like to suggest a major improvement to FL Studio's multi-monitor workflow: a True Free / Independent Window system combined with saved and automatically restored Multi-Monitor Workspaces.

The idea is inspired by professional trading platforms such as Profit Pro, developed by Nelogica in Brazil. In this type of software, individual tools can be changed from a contained window to a Free Window. Once released, the tool becomes an independent operating-system window and can be freely moved to another monitor.

I believe a similar concept would be extremely useful in FL Studio.

1. True independent windows

The main FL Studio work areas should be individually detachable as true independent operating-system windows, especially:

Playlist
Mixer
Channel Rack
Piano Roll
Browser
and potentially other major panels.

For example, each main FL Studio window could have an option such as:

“Free Window / Detach Window”

After activating it, that component would become a true independent Windows window, which could be freely moved, resized or maximized on any connected monitor.

This is important because I am not simply requesting floating windows inside the main FL Studio interface. The purpose is to allow these major components to become independent windows that can be placed on completely separate monitors.

For example, with four monitors:

Monitor 1 → Playlist
Monitor 2 → Mixer
Monitor 3 → Piano Roll
Monitor 4 → Channel Rack

Each area could remain maximized on its own dedicated monitor.

2. Save the complete multi-monitor workspace

This is the other essential part of the proposal.

FL Studio should remember the entire multi-monitor configuration after the user organizes it.

For every independent window, FL Studio should save:

which monitor it is assigned to;
its exact position;
its size;
whether it is maximized;
its window state;
and the complete arrangement of all FL Studio windows.

3. Automatically restore everything when FL Studio starts

After configuring the workstation once, the user should not have to reorganize all the windows every time FL Studio is opened.

For example, if I configure:

Monitor 1 → Playlist
Monitor 2 → Mixer
Monitor 3 → Piano Roll
Monitor 4 → Channel Rack

then, the next time I launch FL Studio, it should automatically recognize my monitors and restore each window to its previously assigned monitor, position, size and state.

In other words:

Configure once → Save → Close FL Studio → Open FL Studio → Everything returns automatically to the correct monitors.

This is a very important part of the request. Having independent windows is useful, but having to manually reorganize them every time would greatly reduce the benefit of a professional multi-monitor setup.

4. Multiple workspace presets

It would also be useful to save several different multi-monitor layouts, for example:

Production Workspace — Playlist, Piano Roll and Channel Rack distributed across multiple monitors.

Mixing Workspace — Mixer on a dedicated full-screen monitor, Playlist on another monitor, with additional tools/plugins on other displays.

Mastering Workspace — Mixer, metering, analyzers and mastering tools arranged across dedicated screens.

The user could switch between these workspaces without manually rebuilding the entire interface.

5. Practical reference: Profit Pro

I am attaching an image from Profit Pro only as a practical example of the concept.

In the screenshot, a tool can be switched between window modes, including “Livre” (“Free”). The Free mode allows that tool to operate independently and be moved to another monitor.

I am not suggesting that FL Studio copy the visual interface of Profit Pro. I am using it simply to demonstrate the workflow concept that I am proposing:

Detach → Move to any monitor → Arrange → Save workspace → Automatically restore on the next launch.

Why would this be useful for FL Studio?

Many modern music production workstations use two, three, four or more monitors. The real advantage of these setups is being able to dedicate different displays to different parts of the production process.

Instead of constantly switching between Playlist, Mixer, Piano Roll and Channel Rack, the producer could have all of these major areas visible simultaneously.

For example:

Monitor 1: Arrangement — Playlist
Monitor 2: Mixing — Mixer
Monitor 3: MIDI editing — Piano Roll
Monitor 4: Instruments, samples and patterns — Channel Rack

This could significantly improve workflow, organization and productivity, particularly for professional and complex FL Studio setups.

In summary, the requested feature consists of:

1. True Free / Independent Windows for the main FL Studio components.
2. Full Multi-Monitor Support for those independent windows.
3. Saved Multi-Monitor Workspaces.
4. Automatic restoration of each window to its assigned monitor when FL Studio starts.
5. Multiple workspace presets for different workflows.

The central idea is:

“The goal is not only to detach FL Studio windows. FL Studio should remember the complete multi-monitor workspace and automatically restore each window to its assigned monitor every time the software is opened.”

I believe this would be a significant workflow improvement for FL Studio users with professional multi-monitor workstations.

Thank you for considering this feature request.
