Novation Launch Control XL

I just bought a Novation Launchpad S and a Launch Control XL. I've read the numerous setup guides and watched the videos as well. I have not installed any Novation software or drivers, I simply plugged the devices in and let Windows 7 add the drivers automatically. I'm not running Automap software as it is not installed on my comp. I've enabled both controllers in FL 11. From the guide I read for the Launch Control, I'm supposed to set the Templates button on the upper right hand corner to User instead of Factory, however, whenever I load a New Novation template from the File menu, the Factory button lights up. At this point, the 8 buttons on the very bottom of the controller trigger some Transport controls in FL, but the Track Focus buttons do nothing. If I change it to User, all 16 buttons along the bottom trigger the default kick sample in the first pattern bank. Any thoughts?
