The output from a mono file is stereo (dual channel), so flipping a Mixer channel to a single meter, to remind you it's mono, is a myth too, it's coming out of two speakers and you are highly unlikely to add mono effects.


Nevertheless, there are some companies (Waves, Fabfilter...etc...) making dedicated Mono plugins to save CPU... no need to spend CPU to process 2 identical channels, where´s only the need of one...
Doing this automatically is i.e. part of the VST3 protocol afaik... works fantastic in Studio One for instance...

For someone working a lot with mono files with a lot of processing, this could make quite a difference being able to run nearly the double amount of plugins in realtime...


There is no big CPU hit to stereo processing when the developer uses the right functions. CPU design takes care of that.

You can use those mono plugins in FL Studio now, so do the comparison?
