in a mixdown such as this one, I had a limiter on my master, but worked to keep everything below zero in the project. individual channels were given compressors and brought up in gain, so that the transients of those sounds were saturated/clipped by only 1 or 2 db.
It has a sound that actually sounds really punchy and works. but I wonder if there are some better methods. anyone care to share their mixdown process in this thread?
