Controller sends on one global channel...how to play on multiple plugins?

Hi. I have a M-Audio Oxygen Pro 25, and I'm trying to use that one controller to play two plugins (not simultaneously, but being able to switch between plugins easily)

I've done some research on this, and people have suggested setting the controller to use different Global midi channels depending on how you set the 'zones' on the controller. I haven't tried this yet because it's not really what I want.

Does anyone have any clues on how this can be accomplished? Seems like there should be a relatively simple way.
