In Maximus when you set a band to "comp off" it toggles off the entire comp section
except for the "Post gain" knob. This doesn't really make sense because Post gain is part of the compression section; you use it to compensate for both the Pre gain and the attenuation caused by the compression (both of which get toggled off).
The result is that when you want to toggle off the compression on that band you don't hear what you need to hear because the gain level is thrown off. So A/B-ing is actually useless unless you can avoid using that gain knob.
I had asked about this years ago and someone on the dev team seemed to agree with me but no luck yet.
