I'm trying to use more music theory when using FL.
I have some background with music theory (reading sheet music in high school jazz band, etc.), but don't find myself using it much in FL.
My lack of music theory hasn't been too much of an issue when doing cover songs by ear, but as I'm trying to write more original stuff I'm struggling, and think incorporating music theory would help.
So far I've found some tools in the Piano Roll that are helpful:
- Stamp tool: shows a list of scales and chords that you can select and place into the piano roll
- Tool tip on top left: shows the note that you just played
- The note itself in the piano roll shows the note name
I'm curious what methods other people use to incorporate music theory into FL.
Are there good methods for using the stamp tool? I can't seem to separate the notes once they get pasted into the piano roll
I wonder if there are any chord analyzer / generator plugins out there. I remember some post mentioning a midi chord analyzer, but I couldn't find a good seeming one.
It would be nice to see a live analysis onscreen of notes I'm playing on my midi controller, kind of like a frequency analyzer but for chords. But that might be too much to ask
I guess there's no substitute for just studying music theory. But since FL is a computer technology, there must be efficiencies it can offer over traditional instruments
