Behringer Chaining Issue

Hi.

I have a Behringer Neutron and Crave. I can control either device directly (well, via FLS and my audio interface) but, when chaining the two together, I cannot control the second in the chain. I am transmitting midi data on different channels (same port). This is with either device first in the chain.

Is this likely to be a bad midi cable, or is there something else I should consider?

As an aside, without using extra gear (that I don't have unfortunately), is there a way to check what if any midi is being received by the second in the chain?
