Elaborating some thoughts taken from an old post of mine. Still very relevant imho.
ISSUE:
There are still many weak links between FL windows. Links that are crucial for such a modular environment.
Here's a brief analysis on how FL windows are connected together.
If I click on a clip in the...
Playlist... then in the Mixer = Instant selection of the corresponding track (only for single clips, no audio/instrument tracks, no multi selection)
Playlist to Picker (panel) = Instant selection (only when double clicking single clips otherwise no connection at all)
Playlist to Channel Rack = Instant selection (but channel rack not scrolling automatically...pain. no multi selection)
Mixer to Playlist = No connection at all
Mixer to Picker = No connection at all
Mixer to Channel Rack = selection only if you press Alt+L ...could be automatic, no infinite loops. with AHK this is possible. No multi selection
Picker to Playlist = Instant selection when clicking on 'Select in Playlist'
Picker to Channel Rack = Instant selection (despite the channel rack not scrolling automatically...pain)
Picker to Mixer = No connection at all
Channel Rack to Mixer = Instant selection
Channel rack to Playlist = No direct connection (you have to pass through the Picker Panel first to be able to select the corresponding clip/s on the Playlist)
this means:
You click on a channel, the Picker highlights the respective clip, then from the Picker right click the clip and press 'Select in Playlist"
Channel Rack to Picker = Instant link for single channels selections but:
- if you select two or more, only the first is selected (not always, depends on how you click)
- no link at all for any instrument channel ( any sampler, any generator, neither if these were set as instrument tracks)
Event editor to anything = partial integration with Piano Roll, otherwise it is "almost unreachable" from any other window. At least not directly as it could ideally be.
So, this is the overview of how all FL windows are linked.
And besides the Event Editor which is the black sheep of them all, and the Mixer which would be tricky to connect to the Playlist and Picker (but it could at least select audio clips which are clearly assignable/related to a mixer track),
The "weakest links" are from/to the Channel Rack and Mixer.
I really hope all these links will be strengthened. FL will gain so much in consistency, ease of navigation and show solid concept of modularity/interconnection.
Because a modular environment without proper connections is not modular anymore.
Thank you
