With Patcher, can I convert an option selector into a two-button control?

Sorry if this is in a wrong forum. I am not sure where to post Patcher related questions.

I have this VST and it has 8 buttons to choose one of available algorithms. The buttons change a value of a single control, and according to the value of the control it shows which algorithm is chosen and in effect.

I want to make a Patcher preset that has 2 buttons, which can let you cycle through the algorithms in both forward and backward direction. First button will let it change from 1 to 8, then 7, 6, 5... the second button will do it from 1 to 2, then 3, 4, 5...

I tried using Formula Controller, but I am not sure if I can store a value anywhere for it to return or receive.

Is this possible?
