Tempo

While I understand musicians refer to bpm as beats per minute I come from a dancesport world where bpm refers to bars per minute. We don't count in beats but count in the number of bars there are in a piece of music. I know it is a small thing but being able to adjust the tempo of a song to bars per minute would help me far more than trying to work out the equivalent in beats per minute. 3/4 timing is easy to work out but it gets more difficult when using 4/4 or 2/4 timing. Especially when composing Latin music.
