Troubleshooting DirectWave and Required Updates

DirectWave can be a great sampler alternative for those of us who use FL Studio, however it seems that the development of this tool has been abandoned. The suggestions and problem reports that I make in this post really need to be fixed because it has been in the program for many years and I have also reported them in the past and I don't see any change with the passing of FL Studio versions.

Troubleshooting

Drag and drop does not work with supported formats

When I drag and drop Kontakt instruments that are not encrypted, the program does nothing. In the case of Soundfonts, it loads with errors and in the case of SFZ, it also loads with errors or does not load at all.

Samples sometimes sound bad or weird

When importing compatible formats you may have noticed that some samples sound bad, out of tune or distorted. This happens randomly.

Sample editor crashes and closes FL Studio when editing sample

On random occasions the editor crashes when I edit samples and also alters the tuning, volume and quality of the sample.

About writing samples

When instruments are imported with samples that have very long names, the program arbitrarily cuts the name and when the instrument is exported in multisample it overwrites the samples, when it is exported in molitico all the samples that make up the instrument are respected but in both cases all the samples have the same name.

Tips and new features

Native SFZ format support

SFZ is an open source format that turns out to be a fairly effective alternative to Kontakt. I understand that Kontakt is the industry standard, however its update policy is questionable. That said, the use of SFZ can make DirectWave stop being a plugin that cannot be used due to the lack of professional libraries.

Support for layers

More complex instruments often use multiple layers, the sfz format has this feature and can benefit the native DirectWave format, for example a professional piano often has multiple layers of sampled sound velocities, releases, hammers and sometimes pads, something like this sounds better than just static samples

Sample fusion

Some instruments supported by DirectWave like Soundfont work with monaural samples and separate them with the criteria [L:-100, R:100, C:0] the proposal is to identify the panned samples and give the possibility of creating a stereo sample of this to make the list of samples shorter to identify this you can use the template [sample L+R.wav or .flac] preferably you can give the option to do it automatically or have the user do it manually

Support for articulators and script

This is so that the instruments can sound more realistic, the ADSR that DirectWave has is something basic for this purpose.

Reorganizable Effects Rack

Effects like delay or reverb give character to the sound and if they can be freely organized this allows a world of possibilities. By default, the ideal would be that they can be added freely by the user and place a section that controls the effect and its volume, and not like now that the volume is separate from the effect.

Multisample in Flac

Enable the possibility of using flac as a native format in multisample and not only in monolithic

UI Themes and plugin redesign

In my opinion the current version is a bit disorganized, you have to use common sense to understand some things and it has some graphical bugs in the zone editor when you want to use it in full screen.

In conclusion, DirectWave has the potential to be a sampling reference for both old and new users, they can study how Kontakt works and apply some of those concepts to DirectWave,
it is also a possibility to attract library developers to DirectWave and be able to make DirectWave bring active revenue, and we users would greatly benefit from this.

Please do not continue to ignore these problem reports and suggestions. DirectWave has been plagued with bugs and shortcomings for years. :D
