I know instrument/audio tracks do this already, but that links you to the workflow of keeping one instrument to one playlist track etc. I don't work like that - I do want the organization gain from only having to color things once though.
All I think it would have to do is check what mixer track the instrument is routed to and apply the same coloring/naming changes made in the channel rack to that, and visa versa. Now that may pose problems if you route multiple instruments to one track, in that case I think it should probably just default to the current behavior. While probably not for everyone, I think as a "General Settings" option this would help a lot.
